About Power Finance Corporation
Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC) is a Schedule-A Maharatna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power. It is a government-owned non-banking finance company and a Government of India undertaking. It lends to central and state utilities, power equipment manufacturers, government departments and large infrastructure developers.
PFC finances the entire power value chain: generation, transmission and distribution. Its generation lending covers renewable, conventional and nuclear projects. Its lending covers rupee term loans, short-term finance, lease financing and transitional funding. Beyond the power sector, it finances e-mobility and charging infrastructure, roads, ports, metro rail and smart cities. Infrastructure and logistics is now a segment in its own right. It also funds green hydrogen projects. Its sources of funds include domestic bonds and term loans, and foreign currency borrowings.
PFC is the nodal agency for several government power programmes, among them the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, the Ultra Mega Power Projects and the Integrated Power Development Scheme.
PFC was set up in 1986 as a wholly government-owned company, mandated to finance India's power sector. Its shares are listed on BSE and NSE. It later took a majority stake in REC Limited, a registered infrastructure finance company that funds power sector projects across India. PFC also has two subsidiaries: PFC Consulting Limited, which offers advisory services, and PFC Infra Finance IFSC Limited, incorporated in February 2024 at the International Financial Services Centre in GIFT City, Gujarat.
