Return is price growth plus the average dividend yield. Change in P/E is (1 + price growth) / (1 + earnings growth) - 1, so the parts compound rather than add. Return a year is the share as it traded across the demerger; the next column is the same return with the demerger reinvested, empty for a window with no demerger in it. Earnings growth over 5 years is on profit divided by shares in issue at both ends: the earnings per share stated for one end does not match that year's profit and share count. Earnings growth over 3 years includes one-off items (exceptional items and the result of businesses sold or closed) of more than a tenth of the profit of the year to Mar 2023.

About NMDC

NMDC Limited mines iron ore in India and supplies it to steel makers. It is a central public sector enterprise that works under the administrative control of the Ministry of Steel, Government of India. It was founded on 15 November 1958, and its corporate office is in Hyderabad.

Its iron ore comes from three highly mechanized mine complexes. Kirandul and Bacheli are in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. Donimalai is in Bellary, Karnataka, and is worked from two pits, Kumaraswamy and Donimalai. The Karnataka mines provide raw material to steel mills in southern India, and a pellet plant operates at Donimalai. NMDC also operates a diamond mine at Panna in Madhya Pradesh. A research and development centre at Hyderabad supports its operations.

NMDC has widened its business beyond iron ore into other minerals. Coal mining began at the Tokisud North block in Jharkhand in January 2026, which marked the company's entry into domestic coal mining. Outside India, it holds 92.84% of Legacy Iron Ore Limited, a company listed in Australia and based in Perth, Western Australia, which focuses on gold, iron ore and base metals. It also holds a 26% stake in International Coal Ventures Private Limited, which supplies coking coal from the Benga mine in Mozambique. NMDC has opened offices in Dubai and Sydney.

Its steel unit has since been demerged from the company.
