About Lloyds Metals and Energy
Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited is an iron ore mining and metals company with its operations in Maharashtra. Its business spans iron ore mining and beneficiation, pelletisation, sponge iron production and power generation. Sponge iron, also called direct reduced iron, is an intermediate material used in steelmaking. The company also runs a mining services business and holds copper mining interests outside India.
Its iron ore comes from the Surjagarh mine in the Gadchiroli district. Both Gadchiroli and neighbouring Chandrapur are described as mineral-rich districts of the state. The company has a strategically integrated slurry pipeline that carries ore from the mine towards its processing and dispatch facilities. Pellets are made at its Konsari facility, and a second pellet plant of 4 MTPA capacity was commissioned in May 2026. A 360 KTPA sponge iron facility operates at Ghugus.
In mining services, the company acquired a majority stake in the Thriveni mine developer and operator business. Thriveni delivers mining operations in India, Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In March 2026 the company started commercial production of copper cathodes at Surya Mines in the DRC, in which it holds a 50 per cent interest. It also holds a 49 per cent stake in the Chemaf Group, a copper and cobalt platform in the DRC. Its overseas operations are listed as Indonesia, the DRC and Papua New Guinea.
One of its directors, Babulal Agarwal, is described as a co-founder of the Lloyds Group.
