Its Odisha power plant partly supplies Tamil Nadu under a long-term power purchase agreement. The company also holds a manganese ore concession in Cote d'Ivoire. In all, it operates across five countries and two continents.
It was incorporated in 1972, and its Paloncha ferro silicon division started commercial operations in 1975. Over the years it amalgamated Nav Chrome Limited, added smelters in Odisha, built power plants to supply its own smelters, and acquired the Maamba coal mine in Zambia.
