Return is price growth plus the average dividend yield. Change in P/E is (1 + price growth) / (1 + earnings growth) - 1, so the parts compound rather than add. Return a year is the share as it traded across the demerger; the next column is the same return with the demerger reinvested, empty for a window with no demerger in it.

About Shipping Corporation of India

The Shipping Corporation of India Limited operates ships that carry cargo across the world. Its business activity is classed as water transport. It was incorporated in 1950 and has its registered office in Mumbai.

The company runs four lines of business: tankers, bulk carriers, liner and passenger services, and technical and offshore services. Its owned fleet includes tankers, bulk carriers and liner vessels, and it also operates managed vessels, including for ONGC and for its subsidiary Inland and Coastal Shipping Limited.

Its ships operate across the world as cargo and trading opportunities arise, so no fixed list of countries applies. The company has its headquarters in Mumbai, five regional or branch offices in India and an international office in London.

It has two wholly owned subsidiaries and four joint venture companies. Inland and Coastal Shipping Limited was incorporated in 2016 to promote inland waterways transport. SCI Bharat IFSC Limited was incorporated in 2024 and is based at GIFT City in Gujarat. The company also demerged its non-core assets into Shipping Corporation of India Land and Assets Limited, a separate listed company since March 2024, under a scheme approved by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in February 2023.

The Government of India is the promoter of the company. A promoter is the person or group that set up a company or controls it. The board includes a government nominee director who represents the promoter, and the company is a Government Company.
