Return is price growth plus the average dividend yield. Change in P/E is (1 + price growth) / (1 + earnings growth) - 1, so the parts compound rather than add. Earnings growth over 3 years is on profit divided by shares in issue at both ends: the earnings per share stated for one end does not match that year's profit and share count. Earnings growth over 1, 3 and 5 years includes one-off items (exceptional items and the result of businesses sold or closed) of more than a tenth of the profit of the years to Mar 2021, Mar 2023, Mar 2025 and Mar 2026.

About Jindal Steel

Jindal Steel Limited is an Indian steel manufacturer. It makes long products, such as TMT rebars, rails, structural sections and wire rods, and flat products, such as hot rolled coils, cold rolled coils and plates. It sells TMT rebars under the Jindal Panther brand. Its customers are in infrastructure, construction, automotive, engineering and energy.

The business is integrated, running from mining, beneficiation and pelletisation to iron making, steelmaking, rolling and power generation. Its crude steel production capacity is 15.6 million tonnes a year. Angul in Odisha has 12.0 million tonnes of that capacity and Raigarh in Chhattisgarh has 3.6 million tonnes. Patratu in Jharkhand is its long products hub, making TMT rebars and wire rods. The Angul plant also makes flat steel for sectors such as defence, shipbuilding and heavy engineering.

Pellet facilities operate at Barbil and Angul. Captive iron ore resources at Tensa, Kasia and Roida-I support a significant portion of its raw material needs. The company also owns thermal and coking coal blocks in India and overseas.

In the year to March 2026, the company commissioned Phase II of its Angul Integrated Steel Plant, which includes a 4.6 MTPA blast furnace and two 3 MTPA basic oxygen furnaces.
