Where the return came from

Yearly rates to Mar 2026, per-share figures restated for splits and bonuses.

OverReturn a yearEarnings growthChange in P/EDividend yield
1 year−9.6%+4.8%−14.7%1.0%
3 years+12.1%+15.8%−4.0%0.9%
5 years+16.5%+23.3%−6.2%0.9%
Return is price growth plus the average dividend yield. Change in P/E is (1 + price growth) / (1 + earnings growth) - 1, so the parts compound rather than add. Earnings growth over 3 and 5 years is on profit divided by shares in issue at both ends: the earnings per share stated for one end does not match that year's profit and share count.

About ICICI Bank

ICICI Bank Limited is a bank in India that takes deposits and makes loans. By assets it is the second largest private-sector bank in India. It is one of three banks designated in India as domestic systemically important banks.

Beyond banking, the bank has subsidiaries in life insurance, general insurance, asset management, broking, housing finance and pension fund management. At the end of March 2026 it held 50.89% of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited and 51.26% of ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited. Another subsidiary, ICICI Securities Primary Dealership Limited, is a non-banking financial company with a primary dealership licence from the Reserve Bank of India, and it trades, invests and makes markets in government securities and other fixed income instruments. India Infradebt Limited, an associate company, works in infrastructure re-finance.

The bank had 7,608 branches at the end of June 2026, sorted into metro, urban, semi-urban and rural centres, after adding 528 in the year to March 2026. Its registered office is in Vadodara, Gujarat, and its corporate office is in Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai.

It was incorporated in 1994. It is part of the ICICI group, and group companies use the bank's brand name and logo. In the 1990s, after India liberalised its financial sector, it changed from a development financial institution offering only project finance, which is long-term funding for industrial projects, to a diversified financial services provider.
