About Central Bank of India
Central Bank of India is a commercial bank with its Central Office at Nariman Point in Mumbai. It lends to retail customers, agriculture and micro, small and medium enterprises, a group of businesses it calls the RAM segment. Its digital banking services run on the Cent NEO platform, and it has financed solar pumps for farmers.
As of March 2026, the bank operates 4,585 physical branches. It has designated 115 of them as Pink Branches, which are solely managed by women staff.
Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawala founded the bank in 1911. The bank describes itself as the first commercial bank owned and managed entirely by Indians. Its early history includes entry to the Bankers' Clearing House in Calcutta, the management of municipal funds for the Bombay Municipality and the Bombay Improvement Trust, a safe deposit vault, a home savings bank department, a ladies department with female assistants, and mandi branches in Punjab that gave farmers direct credit support for selling their produce. Later it launched a credit card, the Centralcard, and introduced a debit card for its customers, to drive digital adoption.
The bank has two subsidiaries, and its reporting covers both along with its branch network. Cent Bank Financial Services Limited is wholly owned and serves as its financial services arm. Cent Bank Home Finance Limited serves as its home finance arm.
