About Balkrishna Industries

Balkrishna Industries makes tyres, mainly off-highway tyres for agriculture, construction, earthmoving, mining and quarrying, industry and port operations. It sells under the BKT brand in more than 160 countries, through a distribution network that serves both replacement and original equipment manufacturer channels, and through subsidiaries in Europe, the United States, Canada and the Netherlands.

The business has three parts. Off-highway tyres are the core business. Consumer tyres for the Indian market cover two-wheeler tyres and commercial vehicle radial tyres. Carbon black, made at Bhuj in Gujarat, supplies the company's own tyre production and outside customers.

Tyres are made at Bhuj in Gujarat, Bhiwadi and Chopanki in Rajasthan, and at two units in Waluj in Maharashtra. Rubber tracks and carbon black are also made at Bhuj. Moulds are made at Bhuj and Dombivli, and drums at Dombivli. The company runs a wind farm at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, and its research centre and tyre test track are at Bhuj.

The company was incorporated in 1961. Its first plant, at Aurangabad, was inaugurated in 1987 by its founder chairman, the late Mahabirprasad Poddar. It began producing off-highway tyres in 1995 and set up plants at Bhiwadi in 2002 and Chopanki in 2006. It began a greenfield plant at Bhuj in 2015, reached carbon black self-reliance in 2020 and commercialised a new replacement plant, Waluj 2, in 2021. A brownfield tyre plant at Bhuj was commercialised in 2022. In 2026 it started expanding into two-wheeler, passenger car radial and commercial vehicle radial tyres.
