About Torrent Pharmaceuticals
Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited develops, manufactures and sells pharmaceutical formulations. It is the flagship company of the Torrent Group, and its registered office is in Ahmedabad. It operates through two segments. Branded generics are affordable alternatives to off-patented drugs, sold under the company's own brand names. Generics are pharmaceutical products supplied after patent expiry in regulated markets. Its portfolio covers gastro-intestinal, dermatology, pain management and gynaecology therapies, as well as vitamins, minerals and nutrients.
India is its largest market. The company also sells in the United States, Germany and Brazil, and operates in more than 50 countries. It manufactures at sites in Gujarat (Indrad, Dahej and Bileshwarpura), Himachal Pradesh (Baddi), Sikkim and Andhra Pradesh (Vizag). In the United States, its subsidiary Torrent Pharma Inc. serves the market, and the company holds 124 approvals for abbreviated new drug applications, 3 of them tentative.
Its pharmaceutical operations began in 1959. It was incorporated in 1972. It has operated in Brazil for 23 years, where it offers both branded generics and generics. It entered Germany in 2005 by acquiring Heumann Pharma from the Pfizer Group. Other acquisitions include the Indian branded business of Elder Pharmaceuticals, the India and Nepal business of Unichem and Curatio Health Care. On 21 January 2026 it completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in J.B. Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Limited, and held 48.80% of that company's equity share capital on 31 March 2026.
