Valuation

Today, against the company's own history. Not shown, P/E: a results filing in the last twelve months restated the quarters before it inside its year to date, so the four quarters as the company reported them do not add to a twelve-month profit; the ratio returns once the trailing year no longer holds a quarter from before the restatement. Its history crosses a change of basis in the accounts in the year to Mar 2021: days before it are of the company before the change.PE ratio and valuation history

Return is price growth plus the average dividend yield. Change in P/E is (1 + price growth) / (1 + earnings growth) - 1, so the parts compound rather than add. Earnings growth over 1, 3 and 5 years is on profit divided by shares in issue at both ends: the earnings per share stated for one end does not match that year's profit and share count. Earnings growth over 5 years includes one-off items (exceptional items and the result of businesses sold or closed) of more than a tenth of the profit of the year to Mar 2021.

About Privi Speciality Chemicals

Privi Speciality Chemicals manufactures and exports aroma chemicals. Its customers are flavour and fragrance companies and FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) companies. The product range spans several groups of aroma chemicals, including pinene-based products, speciality products, musk, phenol and citral. Its products include Galaxmusk, Prionyl and Camphor. It has entered into long-term agreements with Givaudan and Firmenich.

The company also has its own capability to process crude sulphate turpentine (CST), a raw material, and this supports the production of key raw materials for its product lines. A wholly owned subsidiary, Privi Biotechnologies Private Limited, brings biotechnology-driven research capabilities to flavour and fragrance development.

The company operates seven manufacturing units across two sites. The Mahad complex in Maharashtra manufactures pinene-based products, citral and speciality molecules. The plant at Jhagadia in Gujarat is dedicated to phenols and musk. Research and development is carried out at two dedicated centres, in Mahad and Nerul. Both sites have access to JNPT Port and Ankleshwar Dry Port, which support exports.

The company was incorporated in 1985. It was demerged from Fairchem Speciality and is independently listed. It also announced a joint venture with Givaudan SA under the name PRIGIV. It received private equity investment from Avigo and, separately, from Fairfax. The promoter bought back the Fairfax equity. A promoter is the person or group that set up a company or controls it.
