About Exide Industries

Exide Industries Limited makes lead-acid batteries and other energy storage products in India. It sells to vehicle makers, to the replacement market and to industrial, telecom, railway, solar and defence users. It was incorporated in 1947, and its head office is in Kolkata. Its shares are listed on the BSE, the National Stock Exchange and the Calcutta Stock Exchange.

The business is organised by customer type. Automotive batteries go to makers of two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and tractors. Aftermarket batteries serve motor cycles, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. Home batteries and inverters supply households, while UPS batteries serve banks, healthcare, manufacturing and critical infrastructure. Other lines cover solar batteries and inverters, batteries for railways and data centres, backup power for telecom towers, and specialised batteries for naval submarines. Last-mile mobility batteries serve e-rickshaws. Exports to international markets are a separate line.

Exide runs manufacturing plants across India, and replacement sales sit at the core of the automotive business. Two wholly owned subsidiaries support the core business. Chloride Metals Limited does secondary lead smelting and refining, with units in Karnataka, Maharashtra and West Bengal, and recycles lead for Exide's batteries.

Exide Energy Solutions Limited was incorporated in 2022 as the platform for lithium-ion cells, modules and battery packs. It makes modules and packs at Prantij in Gujarat, and it is commissioning a lithium-ion cell factory in Bengaluru.
