Exchange had sought clarification from United Breweries (Holdings) Limited with respect to a news item captioned "UBI may declare UB holdings a wilful defaulter". The Company has clarified that "United Bank of India ("UBI") issued a notice dated 28th May, 2014, alleging wilful default, inter alia, by Kingfisher Airlines Limited ("KAL") in repayment of dues to it. The notice has not been addressed to the Company. However, by an email dated 16th June, 2014 addressed by UBI to the Company, as a clear afterthought, UBI threatened to classify the Company as a wilful defaulter. The Company has replied to the email by its letter dated 26th June, 2014 stating interalia, that the email is unsupported by any documentation and, in breach of the principles of natural justice, no opportunity has been afforded to the Company to make any representation or be heard in the matter. In fact, the Company has till date not been called upon to make any representations or be heard in the matter. The Company is advised that none of the parameters constituting wilful default governed by the Master Circular issued by the Reserve Bank of India, apply to the Company".
