Southern Petrochemicals Industries Corporation Ltd. had informed the Exchange that opening of letters of credit by banks, to facilitate the resumption of production, is pending, in view of claims raised before the Hon'ble Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT) by two of the Company's working capital lending banks, which are being contested by the Company. The Company has now informed the Exchange that: "The Hon'ble DRT, has, inter alia, directed the leader of the working capital bank's consortium viz., Indian Bank, to release a sum of Rs.213.14 crores, in respect of devolved LC liability, to the 19 banks listed by Indian Bank in its Report dated 8.6.2007, and to instruct such banks to open fresh letters of credit to the extent of amounts received by them in terms of the Order. Earlier, 15 banks, forming part of the aforesaid list of 19 banks, had received, in the aggregate, Rs.68.77 crores, on Indian Bank reporting to the Hon'ble DRT that future letter of credit would be opened by the banks to the extent of the amount disbursed i.e. Rs.68.77 crores. Therefore, banks have to open letters of credit for an aggregate sum of Rs.281.91 crores, from out of the sum of Rs.342.70 crores, received by the banks, on the Company's account, by way of fertiliser subsidy. It is understood that a meeting of the consortium of banks has been convened for the 16th instant, to discuss the modalities of implementing the Order of the Hon'ble DRT. The Company is taking all efforts to resume production at the earliest, and in the interim, payments towards statutory dues, essential utilities, salaries and wages are being met".17 Jul · Board meeting
