On January 17, 2012, the Hon'ble Supreme Court has set aside the judgment of the Gujarat High Court by which Essar Oil was entitled to avail of Sales Tax Deferment Scheme i.e. to pay Sales Tax to the Gujarat State Government in deferred installments. The Company has availed of approx. Rs. 6,300 crore of Sales Tax benefit as of December, 2011 which was to be paid in deferred installments. Remuneration Committee of the Board of Directors of the Company at its meeting held on December 02, 2011 has approved grant of 32,11,391 options (convertible into equivalent number of equity shares of Rs. 10/- each of the Company, in three equal installments, at the end of 3rd / 4th / 5th years from the grant date) to the eligible employees and executive directors of the Company pursuant to Essar Oil Employee Stock Option Scheme 2011 approved by the members at their Annual General Meeting held on August 12, 2011.
